Random cases of inflation in Quito, Ecuador. January 2012.

Cost of cigarettes in Quito, pack of Marlboro
was in 2010 - $2.20
now $3

One egg:
was in 2010 -10 cents
now 14 cents

Grooming for Sashka, the dog:
in 2010-beginning of 2011 it was $14, cash price. In the second part of 2011 it became $17 in cash.  If you want to pay with a credit card - the vet would accept it, but the price is higher.

Mattresses:
We got a quote for a twin size base and mattress at the end of December
2011. When we were ready to buy at the end of January the base and mattress (twin size) were $242 all together, $15 more than initial quote just few weeks before. $242 was "the cash" price.  If we would pay with a credit card it would be 25% higher.

Fabric - it doesn't matter if it is my condo in Minneapolis or in Quito - for the bedrooms and the kitchen I always buy fabric and my tailor make window covering, very basic rectangle ones. In 2010 one meter of fabric (cotton and polyester mix - 2.40 meters width) cost $4.50. I just checked fabrics in January at some tiendas in Centro Historico and besides selection being much poorer, one meter of exactly the same quality of fabric cost $6 now.
