January, the time to pay property taxes in Quito

You can pay your property taxes basically the whole year, but there are incentives to pay it earlier in the year - the city would give you discount from January to May. In June there is no more discount given.

I went to the website below (to check how much I owe this year)
http://consultamdmq.quito.gob.ec/ConsultaDeImpuestos/menuingresosconsulta.aspx
I entered my "predio" number, two of them and here it is - my property tax amounts.
This year (2012) my property taxes for
Centro Historico condo - $29.09
municipal value for 2012 - $18K
bought in 2007 for 20K

For the North Quito condo - $44.05
municipal value for 2012 -  $49K
bought in 2010 for $56,900

Someone I know bought a house in the valley (suburbs of Quito) for $260,000 in 2009,
they paid $400 in property tax for 2012.
The city makes them finance the trolley service among other services they are forced to finance. They paid $80 for trolley service (as part of their property taxes in 2012)  The funny part is that in their wildest dreams, they wouldn't take the trolley.

If you don't pay your association fee or property tax, no association or city will kick you out of your house or condo (contrary to the USA, when your house is not really "your" house).  We have neighbors in our Centro Historico association who haven't paid association fees for many years (more than ten years!!!) and I suspect that they didn't pay their property taxes as well and they're still living in their apartments.
