Do you have what it takes to live in Ecuador, to became an expat? Part one.

Do you have what it takes to live in Ecuador, to became an expat?
According to some bloggers (Norteamericanos living in Ecuador) - I don't and most expats I know (Russian, English, Bulgarian, and French speaking) don't have it either and also some Ecuadorians, especially middle and upper class, wouldn't pass their criteria of who could live in Ecuador.
Let's look at these bloggers criteria:
quote from the blogs
--If you cannot live without a special brand of toothpaste – this(Ecuador - L.B.) is not the place for you
--If you need designer jeans in a men’s size 44 – this is not the place for you
--If you need constant outside stimulation, opera, classical music concerts, tango dancing or whatever – this is not the place for you
--If your wife requires Lancôme makeup or Este Lauder perfume – this is not the place for you
end of quote

----If you cannot live without a special brand of toothpaste
We haven't bought one single tube of toothpaste in Ecuador. We or our guests bring it (toothpaste) from USA every year. We prefer a toothpaste with organic Aloe Vera gel and we found a way to have it here in Ecuador.

----If you need designer jeans in a men’s size 44 – this is not the place for you
You can go to Miami to shop, you can use Correo Ecuador Club to deliver packages to your doorstep. You are NOT in "no-man's-land" here in Ecuador. There are shopping malls here as well. It is all up to you. Designer or no designer, we buy our clothing and shoes in the USA.

----If you need constant outside stimulation, opera, classical music concerts, tango dancing or whatever – this is not the place for you
In Quito, Cuenca, and Guayaquil, there is plenty of "opera, classical music concerts, tango dancing, or whatever".  We saw "Carmen" in Teatro Sucre.  We went to tango performances and classical music concerts, etc.
Kenny G, Miley Cyrus, Julio Iglesias, other world class performers, Russian ballet, Italian opera, Broadway shows - including "Tango Forever" - it is all available from time to time, in Quito, Cuenca, Guayaquil. Also, all kind of dance classes, including belly dancing and tango are available here in Quito.

--If your wife requires Lancôme makeup or Este Lauder perfume – this is not the place for you
I don’t use Lancôme or Este Lauder, but in Quito there is plenty of stuff like this for sale.
Then again, Miami with all its shopping malls, is only a four hour flight away.

p.s. I tried hard not to insult these bloggers, I like their blog and they have a lot of thoughts I agree with. I just disagree with these particular criteria.
